Pre-order
The first edition, direct from the authors.
Judgment Capital is a book about the asset no institution counts: the accumulated capacity to form, test and hold independent judgment, and what happens to it when the machine does the work through which that capacity used to be built. It names the asset, the six ways it drains, and what a board is accountable for while it does.
The manuscript is finished — prologue and fourteen chapters, appendices, thirty-four figures, sources in full. What is not finished is the publishing, and until it is we are not taking money for the book. The list below is a list and nothing more: no deposit, no card, no obligation on either side.

The editions
The list, while the publishing is settled.
There will be three editions and they will ship to the EU, the UK, the United States and Canada. We are not naming prices or taking deposits until the publishing arrangement is settled, because a price we might have to change is worth less to you than one we can hold. Leave your address and you will be written to first — one message, when there is something to say.
What you pay, and when
A deposit now. The balance when it ships. Nothing twice.
The deposit is part of the price on the card above, not an addition to it. It appears on your statement as a deposit, and the second charge appears as the balance, so the two lines can be read against one order rather than mistaken for a duplicate.
The balance is taken on the day your copy leaves us, not before. If it cannot be taken, we write to you and hold your number while it is sorted out; if it cannot be settled at all, the deposit comes back.
We split it this way because a book that does not yet exist should not be paid for in full, and because the split is what keeps your card protection alive while you wait.
The undertaking
We expect the book sooner than the date below, and we will not name an earlier one while the publishing is unsettled: a date you can rely on is worth more to you than a date that flatters us.
We undertake to deliver by 28 February 2027. If we have not delivered by then, we refund you automatically, without your having to ask.
This is the delivery time expressly agreed for your order. It takes the place of the thirty days that would otherwise apply by default, and it is the date the refund runs from.
The publisher
There is no publisher named here, and we would rather say why than leave you to wonder.
The manuscript is with agents and with presses. Those conversations take months, and they are not ours to announce while they are live. They also turn on things that have nothing to do with the argument — house register, list fit, a slot that closed a season ago — which is why we will not stake your delivery date on one of them.
If a press takes it, you still receive the numbered first edition you paid for, at the price you paid. If none does, we publish and deliver it ourselves. That fallback is entirely within our control, and it is the only reason we can put a date in writing at all. A promise that depends on someone else’s decision is not a promise.
We would rather you weighed that than found it out later. The argument of this book is that institutions lose the capacity to judge when they are handed confident answers instead of the working. It would be a poor way to open one.
Tax, duties and delivery
What the price covers, and the one thing it cannot.
For buyers in the European Union the price you see is the final price. The price shown includes VAT, and nothing further is due on delivery.
Outside the EU, your own customs authority may charge import duty or local tax on delivery, and that charge is not ours to waive. The United States is the exception — we clear those parcels duty paid, so nothing is asked of you on arrival.
Delivery is included to the EU, the UK, the United States and Canada. Anywhere else the postage costs more than we can absorb inside the price, so write to alex@judgmentcapital.org before you order and we will tell you the real figure rather than surprise you with it.
Changing your mind
Fourteen days, and they start when the book arrives.
You have fourteen days to withdraw from this purchase without giving a reason. For a physical book that period runs from the day you take possession of it, not from the day you order — so the whole of the wait, and a fortnight beyond it, is yours to change your mind in.
Two exceptions, said here rather than left in the terms. A signed copy carries the dedication you write at checkout, which makes it a book made for you and no one else — that one cannot come back once it has reached you. A Board Set is bought by an organisation, and the fourteen days are a consumer’s right; if you are buying one for yourself, say so and we will treat it as a consumer purchase. Nothing about a copy being numbered changes any of this.
Before the book ships, cancelling is simpler still: write to us and the deposit comes back. Tell us in any clear words, by email to alex@judgmentcapital.org. There is no form to complete and no reason to give, and we refund to the card you used within fourteen days of hearing from you.
The full terms set out the seller, the two charges, the delivery undertaking, the withdrawal right and what happens if a press signs the book between now and then. They are three minutes to read and worth the three minutes.
